DENTON (8/17/05) -- North Texas head women’s tennis coach Dawna Prevette has announced the Mean Green’s 2005-06 schedule, which is made up of three fall tournaments and 23 spring matches that include seven home outings slated to be played at the new Waranch Tennis Pavilion.
North Texas’ fall schedule will kick-off with the three-day Mean Green Invitational on September 23 and conclude at the ITA Regional Tournament in College Station, Texas, October 21-25. The other fall tournament on the schedule is the Texas Tech Tournament, but NT will also host an exhibition alumni tournament on October 29 in its final tune-up for the spring.
The Mean Green will begin head-to-head competition on January 28 at TCU and play its first seven matches on the road before hosting Sun Belt Conference opponent Arkansas-Little Rock on February 16 in its first home match. UALR is one of six current Sun Belt opponents on the schedule, but NT also catches future members Florida Atlantic and Louisiana-Monroe during the course of the season.
"The team is excited about this upcoming year," said Prevette. "We’ve scheduled six current Sun Belt teams and two future SBC teams. We are looking forward to creating some great rivalries within the conference."
NT’s match against the Trojans also starts a four-match home stand, its longest of the season, that ends 10 days later against Louisiana-Monroe. While the Mean Green catches the Horned Frogs in its season opener, it will close out its regular season with matches at Metroplex rivals UT-Arlington and SMU before competing in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament.
The SBC Championships will be played April 21-23 in Mobile, Alabama.
The Waranch Tennis Complex will feature coaches’ offices, home and visitor locker rooms, a team meeting room and a pro shop in addition to 12 courts. There will be three covered spectator areas that will have six courts to each side. The complex is located on S. Bonnie Brae St. at the entrance to Victory Hall, across from the future North Texas Women’s Athletic Center.
