DENVER, Colo. (10/27/06) Facing the hottest team in the conference, the North Texas women’s soccer team fell to the Denver Pioneers 2-0 from the Pioneer Soccer Field.

The Pioneers (15-2-1, 11-0) win clinches the regular season Sun Belt Conference title and the top seed in the SBC tournament while North Texas (13-4-2, 9-2) will enter the conference tournament as the third-seed.

In a tight defensive game, the Pioneers struck early in the match. Elise Mascitelli scored in the eighth minute of play on a deflection in front of the North Texas net. Denver extended its lead to 2-0 in the 18^th minute of play when Lizzy Carlson scored off a cross in the box.

The Mean Green offense could only muster three shots against the Pioneers in the game.

Goalkeeper Kandice Ellis made 10 saves on the day, her second most on the year.

North Texas begins play in the SBC Tournament on Wednesday, November 1 in seek of its third straight tournament title and appearance in the NCAA Tournament.
