HOUSTON (11/03/06) The Mean Green tennis team finished day one of the Houston Quad Tournament with a win by senior Megan Schmulbach on Friday.

Schmulbach defeated Christine Abayan from the Air Force Academy (2-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-7)). She is scheduled to play Saturday at 11:30 a.m. in the semifinals.

Idalina Franca had a rough start as she was defeated by Kalei Gora from Lee College (6-2, 6-3) but quickly recovered during the consolation round where she beat Knight from the Air Force Academy (7-5, 6-0).

Aziza Aba Butain was defeated by Kelly Morgan from Air Force Academy 7-6 (5), 6-4) but had a comeback in consolation play beating Elisa Leeder from Lee College (6-1, 2-6, 1-0 (10-8).

Doubles play is scheduled to begin tomorrow morning at 8:00 a.m.
