DENTON (4/7/06) -- The North Texas women’s tennis team (4-13) fell 6-1 against Sun Belt foe Arkansas State (10-6) on Friday afternoon at the Waranch Tennis Pavilion under windy conditions.
The match was the first of three consecutive home outings for the Mean Green, which was coming off a seven-match road stretch. North Texas played its sixth home match of the year and ASU was the fourth Sun Belt Conference opponent NT has faced this season.
North Texas’ Aziza Aba Butain and Ina Wieding won the top doubles flight, but the Lady Indians took the hard-fought point with two narrow two-point victories.
Freshman Lynley Wasson claimed the Mean Green’s only victory in singles action, defeating Zeljka Minic (2-6, 6-2, 14-12) in the second flight. Wasson won her team-best 14th match of the season.
North Texas returns to action Saturday, hosting Sun Belt Conference opponent Louisiana-Lafayette at 11 a.m. at the Waranch Tennis Pavilion.
