DENTON (9/13/06) - The North Texas soccer team is back at home for two games this week beginning tonight with Texas Woman’s University. The game will start at 7 pm at the North Texas Soccer Field on Bonnie Brae.
The Mean Green also has a Friday night home game against Northwestern State. North Texas will conclude the week with a road trip to Grambling State in the final non-conference game this season. North Texas is a combined 6-0 against the three upcoming opponents this week.
Despite losing two games over the weekend, North Texas remains ranked 15th in the Central Region. The Mean Green’s only blemishes on the season have been to No. 20 USC, No. 32 Nebraska, and SMU, which is ranked ninth in the Central Region.
Junior Heather Hutyra notched her 28th career goal and 69th career point over the weekend. She is now tied for sixth place all-time in goals and seventh place in points at North Texas.
North Texas has been a strong starting team in years past, posting a record of 65-20-05 in the month of September. Despite two losses this month, North Texas has never had more than three losses in the month of September.
Not to often has North Texas had a losing streak. In fact the longest losing streak in history is just three games, which has happened only twice in school history. In the past three seasons, two game losing streaks have actually been a good sign of things to come. Since 2003, the Mean Green has suffered three, two-game losing streaks. Last season North Texas went on a 15-game unbeaten streak after losing two in a row. In 2004, the Mean Green won seven of its next nine games and in 2003 North Texas won five of the next six games it played.
Texas Woman’s University enters the game on Wednesday with a 2-3-1 record. The Pioneers are coming off a 3-1 loss to Nebraska-Omaha. Northwestern State is 4-3 on the year after an 8-0 rout of Southern. The Lady Demons have won three of its past four games including a victory
