North Texas Tennis Wraps Up Successful Mean Green Invitational

Denton (9/24/06)- North Texas tennis defeats high-ranking opponents, wrapping up the Mean Green Invitational at Waranch Tennis Complex. After a rough day yesterday, the Mean Green pulled through with three wins in singles play and two wins in doubles.

Stacy Blair started the North Texas winning streak, defeating Maddie Snevily from Tyler in a competitive, three-set, singles match, which ended with a 11-9 tie breaker.

Sammie Moreton followed suit by defeating Zeljka Minic from Arkansas State 6-0, 6-2 in singles play.

Aziza Aba Butain had a good day, defeating Kaycee Wood from Tyler in singles play. She then teamed up with Moreton for an 8-1 win in doubles against UT-Arlington.

Idelina Franca bounced back from yesterday’s upset by teaming up with Megan Schmulbach for a victory over Arkansas State in doubles play.

Head Coach Sujay Lama is pleased with the girl’s performances throughout the weekend.

“We accomplished all of our goals this weekend which were to play a lot of matches and improve with each match,” said Lama. “All of the girls got better with every match and they all had a great attitude. It is really exciting to see that in such a short amount of time they’ve made a tremendous amount of progress. We expressed both progress and weakness this weekend. We’ve noticed some thing’s we need to work on, but I am really encouraged about the upcoming season. With the positive attitude and fight they’ve shown this weekend, I am looking forward to good things from this team.”
