DENTON, Tex. (10/12/07) The red-hot North Texas soccer team is back at home this weekend for two matches beginning tonight with a battle against the Troy Trojans. The Mean Green has won four straight games and is a perfect 6-0 at home this season.
At 10-2 North Texas has matched its best record through 12 games. Only one other time the Mean Green has been 10-2 and that was a decade ago in 1997. The best mark in school history through 13 games is 11-2, which the Mean Green can match with one more win. North Texas is 4-0 in league play for the fourth time in since joining in the Sun Belt in 2000.
After a two week absence, North Texas has played its way back into the Central Region Top 15. The Mean Green check in at 14th this week after receiving votes the past two. Of the 15 teams that are ranked and three that are receiving votes, North Texas has the most wins with 10 and only No. 1 Texas and No. 5 LSU have fewer losses.
The North Texas offense continues to be the most potent in the league and now is nearing the top in the nation. The Mean Green is second nationally in goals with 41 and closing the gap on Florida State. North Texas is averaging 3.42 goals a game while the Seminoles are at 3.83 a game with 46.
Freshman Janaye Woods and Brittany Cleveland are tied for 19th nationally with nine goals. Woods is tied for third nationally when it comes to goals by freshman. Kendall Juett is fourth in the nation in assists with nine.
North Texas faces South Alabama on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. from the North Texas Soccer Field.
