Tennis Doubles Team Advances At ITA Regionals

LUBBOCK, Texas (10/20/07) Madura Ranganathan and the doubles team of Catalina Cruz and Rachel Wilhelm made it to the round of 16 in the main draw today at the ITA Regionals.

The Mean Green has an overall doubles record of 2-3 in Regionals. Highlights go to Cruz and Wilhelm who hold a 2-0 record in the Regionals. The doubles team recently conquered opponents Alexandria Guilda and Rabea Hartmann from Texas State University 8-2 in doubles.

Ranganathan also continues to go strong in overtaking Natalie Holmes of Baylor University 6-1, 6-0 in singles. Narine Kazarova had a victory over No. 7 seed Lucy Forward from the University of Houston 6-3, 6-2.

“Coach Lama and I are very pleased with the energy we saw today. We played well in singles and doubles,” said assistant coach Jeff Maren. “We are also pleased with the progress Ranganathan had. She did a good job maintaining her energy and we look forward to the second match tomorrow.”

North Texas will continue at Regionals tomorrow where Cruz and Wilhelm will go on to face No. 2 seeded Lenka Broosova and Zuzana Zemenova of Baylor University in the doubles main draw.
