Woods Named Freshman Of The Year

DENTON, Tex. (11/6/07) The North Texas women’s soccer team is racking up plenty of awards heading into the start of the Sun Belt Conference Tournament. Freshman Janaye Woods was named the league’s Freshman of the Year and three players earned first-team all-conference honors.
Woods, also named to the first-team all-conference, is the league leader in points (33), goals (12), and is tied for the lead with nine assists. She is the fourth North Texas player to earn the Sun Belt Conference Freshman of the Year award, joining teammates Kelli Lunsford and Heather Hutyra. Marilyn Marin won in 2000. Woods is the only freshman in the conference to make the first-team all-conference squad.
Sophomore Kendall Juett and senior Dani Slavonic were also named first-team all-conference for their efforts this season. Juett is on the first-team for the second straight year as she has eight goals and 25 points this season. Slavonic is on the all-conference team for the first time in her career as she earned the nod for her play in the Mean Green backfield.
North Texas is back going after its third bid to the NCAA Tournament this week as they begin the SBC Tournament with a battle against Louisiana-Lafayette on Wednesday at 1 p.m. in Mobile, Ala.
