Southern Miss Defeats Mean Green Tennis

Hattiesburg, MS - The North Texas tennis team continued its road trip with a 7-0 loss to Southern Mississippi on Saturday afternoon at Tatum Park.
The Mean Green falls to 0-3 in the spring season, while the Lady Eagles improve to 3-0.
"Outstanding effort was prevalent all over the court," said North Texas head coach Sujay Lama. "The kids fought their hearts out. We just met a superior team that played really well today. I was encouraged that with each match the girls are making improvements. We are looking forward to finishing this road swing against SE Louisiana, who is a really good team. We have another opportunity tomorrow to prove ourselves."
In singles action, North Texas was swept in all six sets. Senior Megan Schmulbach lost to Sherry Price at the No. 1 singles, 6-3, 6-0, while junior Idalina Franca fell to Brittany Serret in the No. 2 position.
Also in singles play, Aziza Butain lost to Ali Blackett, 6-2, 6-0 at the No. 3 flight. Mary Poe, Hollie Caras and Emi Itabashi also lost in straight sets.
In doubles action, Lama switched up partners but the Mean Green still lost the doubles point. Butain and Schmulbach lost to Price and Serret at the No. 1 flight (8-3), while Poe and Caras lost to Dellocono and Gutterman, 8-0 at No. 2. Franco and Itabashi lost to Blackett and Kammerer, 8-1.
North Texas finishes its road trip with a match against SE Louisiana on Sunday, Feb. 4 at 10 am.
