North Texas Has Singles Win Against ASU
3/11/2007 12:00:00 AM | Women's Tennis
“The two people who have really had a great showing this weekend were Idalina and Aziza,” said head coach Sujay Lama. “A few weeks ago Idalina came to me and was disappointed that she was losing three-set matches so she put in extra time and extra lessons and her hard work has paid off. It’s really great to have a player like her setting examples for other girls in the program.”
For the second consecutive match, it only took Idalina Franca two sets to win in No. 2 doubles. She defeated Zeljka Minic 6-4, 6-4.
Aziza Aba Butain and Megan Schmulbach teamed up to win 8-5 at the No. 1 doubles position but the doubles point was ultimately won by the ASU Indians.
“I am very proud of Aziza,” said Lama. “We were fortunate to have her this weekend. She has been very, very sick with the flu all week and barely made trip. She fought hard and hung in there. She battled and I am really proud of that.”
Up next for Mean Green tennis is a home match against UI-Chicago on Fri, March 16 at 3 pm at Waranch Tennis Complex.
