Soccer Announces 2007 Schedule

DENTON (4/16/07) The University of North Texas has announced its 2007 soccer schedule which is highlighted by its first meeting with Oklahoma in nearly a decade, and home games against UTEP and Denver. The Mean Green faces three teams that went to the NCAA Tournament last season and will play nine homes games this year.

Since the 2000 season, the Mean Green has been nearly perfect in defending its home turf. North Texas holds a record of 54-3-6 at home since 2000.

"This schedule should be very challenging for us and hopefully it will prepare us to be playing our best soccer at the end of the year which would enable us to make our third trip to the NCAA tournament,” said North Texas head coach John Hedlund.

North Texas begins its season on August 31 with a match against cross-town rival Texas Woman’s University. Two days later on Sept. 2 UTEP, winners of 15 games last season, visits the North Texas Soccer Field.

The Mean Green faces Oklahoma on the road Friday, Sept. 21. North Texas is a perfect 3-0 against the Sooners all-time as the two teams will meet for the first time since the 1998 season. North Texas will face former Big West foe Long Beach State for the first since 1999 in Norman on Sept. 23.

Sun Belt Conference play starts at home on Sept. 28 against Louisiana-Monroe. Denver, the defending conference champion, visits Denton on Nov. 2 to close out SBC play. The Mean Green will play six conference games on the road and five at home this season.

North Texas plays metroplex rival SMU on finish the regular season on Nov. 4 in Dallas.

The 2007 Sun Belt Conference Tournament takes place on Nov. 7-10 in Mobile, Ala.

North Texas is coming off its fourth straight 15-win season and has never had a losing season in school history.
