Freshman Wins Consolation Title At Baylor Tennis Invite

WACO, Texas (9/30/07) Madura Ranganathan carried the torch for the North Texas tennis team, winning the “A” Flight Consolation title at the H-E-B Baylor Invitational.
The freshman knocked off Christina Keesey from
Narine Kazarova’s magical run at the Baylor Invitational came to an end in the “B” Flight Championship match. The freshman had wins over athletes from UT-San Antonio, Army, Oklahoma State and Ohio State, but Mariaryeni Guitierrez from Lamar was too much, 6-4, 6-3.
The doubles team of Shannon MacKenzie and Sammie Moreton made the “C” Flight Doubles Finals, but couldn’t take the final step. Playing with an injured shoulder that forced her to serve underhand, Moreton and her teammate fell to a mixed team of Bettina Gabbe from Oklahoma State and Jessica Giuggioli from Kentucky.
The Mean Green returns to action on Oct. 13 at the Waranch Tennis Complex for the North Texas Challenge.
