Options are never a bad thing, and that is exactly what NT head coach Johnny Jones has in 2008-09. Nine different players took at least five shots and all 11 players on the active roster scored in the season opening win over Cameron. The Mean Green was 35-of-63 (55.6 percent) from the floor, including 8-of-17 (47.1 percent) from beyond the arc.
Mean Green big-man Justin Howerton had the Snake Pit crowd in a frenzy with his 10-point performance on Friday night. In just his fifth career start, the senior was 4-of-5 from the floor with eight rebounds, including three on the offensive glass.
In Friday’s season opener, North Texas outscored the Cameron Aggies 43-27 in the second half to help pull away for a 87-66 victory in the season opener in front of 1,792 boisterous fans at the Snake Pit.
In last year’s outing versus OSU, Keith Wooden and Josh White each had 25 points in leading the Mean Green to an 82-73 victory. The Mean Green won its first game against the Cowboys in front of 6,793, the eighth-largest home crowd in NT history and the biggest since 1980. NT broke things open with a first-half 17-0 run to grab a 32-16 lead it wouldn’t relinquish. Marcus Dove led OSU with 23 points.
