Mean Green Tennis Closes Fall Season

DENTON, Texas (11/8/08) - The Mean Green tennis team finished its fall season on Saturday at the North Texas Classic in Denton. The doubles teams of Amy Joubert/Rachel Wilhelm and Catalina Cruz/Narine Kazarova picked up wins and Irina Paraschiv and Narine Kazarova each had dominant singles victories.
While hosting the final day of the North Texas Classic, Mean Green head coach Sujay Lama talked about his team this fall.
"I am proud of what the team has accomplished," said Lama. "It's been a busy fall, playing in several tournaments and a lot of matches. We have shown the ability and competitiveness needed to be successful. The team just needs to stay focused and keep working on the little things. We are looking to do great things in the spring."
On Saturday, the doubles team of Joubert/Wilhelm continued their strong chemistry by defeating the team of Ewa Szatkowska/Caroline Beaulieu of Tulsa (8-2). Catalina Cruz and Narine Kazarova beat another North Texas team of Ashley Akin and Shannon MacKenzie (8-4).
In singles, freshman Irina Paraschiv wrapped up her first fall at North Texas with a victory over Cami Hubbs of Ohio State (6-2, 6-0). Narine Kazarova also grabbed a W over Tulsa's Ewa Szatkowska (6-2, 6-1).
The Mean Green gets the rest of the year off before opening the spring season on January 17 at Sun Belt opponent, New Orleans.
