Tennis Team Can't Get Past Tough Miners Squad

The Mean Green (5-5) fell 4-3 to the Miners who are now 7-2 this season. For the second straight day it came down to the last match with freshman Amy Joubert. Joubert came back to win the second set, but fell 7-5 in a hard fought third set to UTEP’s Amber Brightly.
“This was a disappointing loss because we were two points away from winning,” said head coach Sujay Lama. “But we have to give credit to UTEP, they played extremely well on their home court and we can use this as a learning experience. Hopefully next time we can come back for the win.”
This was only the third match for the newly formed No. 1 doubles team of Madura Ranganathan and Catalina Cruz this season, but they have continued their three match winning streak by defeating Miners Weronika Bloczynska and Harmonie Chatagner 8-6. The Miners took the other two doubles matches to take the point.
Cruz also picked up a victory in No.2 singles against Marian DeLuca, improving her singles record to 7-3 on the season. Mean Green’s Narine Kazarova and Idalina Franca also picked up wins in singles play against the Miners.
