LUBBOCK, Texas (2/08/08) The Mean Green tennis team saw its three-match win streak come to a halt in a 6-1 loss at Texas Tech on Friday.
No. 1 singles player Madura Ranganathan picked up the lone win for North Texas (3-2), knocking off the Red Raiders’ (5-1) Samantha van der Drift, 7-5, 3-6, 10-7.
“We took a step back today for the first time this year,” said head coach Sujay Lama. “We just didn’t compete very well, but I give a lot of credit to Texas Tech. They played really well at home today. We hope to use this as a learning tool heading into tomorrow’s match.”
Normally steady in doubles play, the Mean Green lost its first doubles point of the year at the hands of Texas Tech. The team of Idalina Franca and Narine Kazarova had the only doubles win, and remains the only undefeated pair on the year at 4-0.
