White's 23 Points Not Enough In Late Loss At Boise State

BOISE, Idaho (11/28/09) - Josh White got back on track with 23 points, but a late run from Boise State was too much for the North Texas basketball team in a 79-73 loss at Taco Bell Arena.
The Mean Green (3-2) led by as much as five points with just under 11 minutes remaining, but an 11-2 Boise State (4-2) streak gave the Broncos an insurmountable lead just four minutes later. White's 23-point performance moved him into the top 30 scorers in program history, giving the junior 850 career points.
NT held BSU to just one field goal over the game's last 2:40, and made it a one score game at 76-73 thanks to the first career 3-pointer for Jacob Holmen with 27.4 seconds left. Robert Arnold answered with a bucket and La'Shard Anderson tallied a free throw to ice the game for the Broncos.
The Mean Green shot its way out of the Boise State zone defense with a four-pack of 3-pointers in the first nine minutes of the second half. North Texas was 9-of-22 (40.9 percent) from deep on the night.
George Odufuwa found himself with three fouls just three minutes into the game, forcind the big man to the bench. BSU's Kurt Cunningham took advantage with seven early points to give Boise State an 11-6 edge. Cunningham ended with a team-high 17 points.
Josh White clawed the Mean Green into its first lead of the day with a pair of 3-pointers right off the bat. The junior needed just seven minutes to reach double figures, and finished the first half with 16 points.
With Odufuwa on the shelf, NT saw some nifty play down low from Cam Spencer, Ben Knox and Jacob Holmen. Spencer found Knox with a wall pass in the block for a bucket, and Holmen hit a quick jumper to vault NT into a 28-27 lead with four minutes left in the half.
BSU's Paul Noonan hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer to ruin NT's lead heading into the half. White hit a layup for his 16th point in the half to give the Mean Green a 37-35 lead with 30 seconds left in the half.
North Texas returns home to face the University of the Southwest on Wednesday. Tip off from the Super Pit is slated for noon.
