Stevenson Voted All-Conference

DENTON – The UNT men's basketball team's sophomore guard and leading scorer during the regular season Je'Shawn Stevenson was voted American Conference All-Conference Second Team and voted to the league's All-Newcomer Team, the conference announced Tuesday.

Over the 31-game schedule, Stevenson was the league's fifth highest scorer averaging 17.0 points per game. He sank 71 3-pointers and on the defensive end he led the league with 62 steals. Of the 15 American Conference players voted all-conference on Tuesday, Stevenson was one of just two who is in his second year or less of college. No freshmen were voted to an all-conference team.

He is just the eighth different North Texas sophomore or freshman to ever be voted to an all-conference team.

Stevenson has scored over 20 points 11 times this season, including a career high 29 points in the Mean Green's 73-72 win over Florida Atlantic on Feb. 22. The Chicago native has scored in double figures in all but three games this year. He is just the fifth UNT sophomore or freshman to score 500 points in a single season. He enters the conference tournament having scored so far 527 points.

Stevenson's 62 steals this year are the fourth-most by a Mean Green player in program history and he is just one steal shy of having the second-most in UNT history.

The guard transferred to North Texas from Cleveland State where last season he was named the Horizon League's Freshman of the Year and voted to its All-Freshmen Team.

The UNT men's basketball team begins the conference tournament on Thursday at 8 p.m. CT from Legacy Arena in Birmingham, Alabama. They will face off against the winner of No. 7 Florida Atlantic and No. 10 Temple.
