Paraschiv Awarded SBC Women's Player Of The Week

DENTON, Texas (2/25/09) - Freshman Irina Paraschiv of the North Texas tennis team was honored as the Sun Belt Women's Tennis Player of the Week on Wednesday. This is the first SBC award for Paraschiv who is currently ranked at No. 14 for singles in the ITA Southwest Region.
"Irina has really been blossoming as a player this season," said Mean Green head coach Sujay Lama. "It's a nice, well-deserved honor for her to receive. This can only motivate her to keep playing her best."
Paraschiv kept her singles winning streak alive this past weekend against No. 73 Louisville and Middle Tennessee. She has now won six singles matches in a row, five of those from the No. 1 position. Irina defeated Lindsey Jones of
Paraschiv has posted an overall singles record of 7-2 (2-0 in the Sun Belt) and 6-4 in doubles.
The Mean Green (7-3, 2-0) hosts its two biggest matches of the season starting on Friday with No. 32 Tulsa at 3 P.M followed by No. 48 Florida International on Sunday at 11 A.M.
