DENTON, Texas (11/9/11) - Junior Jacob Holmen and freshman Chris Jones led the Mean Green with 10 points each to lead the North Texas men's basketball team to a 67-54 exhibition win against Oklahoma City on Wednesday night at the Super Pit.
"I was pleased with over effort and the way we came out of the lockerroom in the second half a little more under control," said head coach Johnny Jones. "To have as many new guys as we have playing against such a well-coached team, I'm pretty excited about how well we executed tonight."
The Mean Green improves to 15-0 in exhibition games under head coach Johnny Jones. The two teams have not met since 1983.
The North Texas team featured six newcomers, including two in the starting lineup. Jordan Williams, Brandan Walton and Forrest Robinson followed Jones with seven points apiece. The six new faces accounted for 39 of NT's 67 points.
Alonzo Edwards was just shy of a double-double with eight points and nine rebounds. He led the team in rebounds. As a team, North Texas won the rebounding battle, 45-33.
The Stars shot 50 percent in the first half and entered the break just one point behind the Mean Green, 35-34.
North Texas opened the second half on a 21-6 run to take a double-digit lead. The Mean Green finished the game shooting 38 percent from the field.
North Texas opens its regular season on Friday, Nov. 11, as it hosts St. Gregory at 7 p.m. at the Super Pit.
