Swimming Brings Home Ten School Records

COLUMBIA, Missouri- North Texas wrapped up the three-day Missouri Invite on Saturday, taking home a plethora of school records and personal accomplishments. The swim team registered nine new school records over the past 72 hours and still has half the season to go.
Junior Catia Weickgenant won the 200 Fly in 2:00.51, breaking her third record of the meet and own school record of 2:01.72 which dates back to February 2011. Weickgenant now holds the second fastest 200 Fly time in the Sun Belt Conference this season. She also completed the 100 Free in 51.66 seconds, just 0.5 seconds off the school record. The junior set new program records in the 200 Fly, 500 Free and 200 Free during the meet.
Freshman Krista Rossum broke her fourth school record of the meet, this time in the 200 Breast. Rossum's new top time adds to her collection of school records in the 200 IM, 400 IM, and 100 Breast. Rossum won the 200 Breast in 2:14.84, breaking her previous program record of 2:18.36 on October 22, 2011. The freshman swimmer has now set six of the program's top times on the year.
Freshman Mona Groteguth placed fourth in the 200 Back with a time of 2:00.24, which is the programs second fastest recorded time.
Junior Becca Ploetz ended the 100 Free in 52.2, just 0.06 seconds off the team's best time of the season.
Junior Bryn Lewis knocked over four seconds off her best season time in the 200 Fly. She finished in 2:06.26, the third fastest time of the season for the Mean Green.
The 400 Free Relay (Rossum, Ploetz, Gentile, Weickgenant) raced the fourth fastest time in school history (3:27.67). Rossum's 100 Free split of 51.3 landed her 0.14 seconds off breaking another North Texas record.
The Mean Green finished the Missouri Invite, but will remain in Columbus, Missouri for another day to compete in the Mizzou Long Course Invitational held at the Mizzou Aquatic Center. The long course (50-meter pool) time trial meet is for swimmers trying to make the Olympic Trials cuts.
