ROCKWALL, Texas- North Texas currently holds an early team lead in the Sun Belt Swimming & Diving Championship, during day two of the competition. Catia Weickgenant won the 500 yard freestyle event and set her second school record of the meet en route to victory.
North Texas finished 1-3-4-5 in the 500 yard freestyle, as Weickgenant set a new school record and made the NCAA 'B' cut with a time of 4:50.51. Angie Dworshack, Dawn Richerson and Erika Roach finished third through fifth.
Rosa Gentile just missed lowering her school record in the 200 IM, as she finished sixth, and helped North Texas retain second place in the meet, only trailing Denver by nine points.
Seabre Pope finished fourth in the 50 yard freestyle, with a time of 23.57.
Catherine Johnson took second in the 3-meter diving with a 258.20, with Delia Covo finishing right behind her with a 254.55 in third place.
North Texas comes in third in the 200-yard freestyle relay. North Texas through strong performances in the last two events, jumps back into first place in the meet, with a slim 4.5 point lead over Denver.
The Sun Belt Championships resume tomorrow morning at 11 a.m.
