Fraley Homers Twice In Softball Victory

DENTON, Texas (2/25/11) - Maddelyn Fraley hit two home runs and knocked in five RBI to lead the North Texas softball team to a 14-10 victory against UTSA on Friday night at Lovelace Stadium.
The Mean Green improves to 6-5 and has won its last four games. North Texas extends its series record against UTSA (2-9) to 5-3.
North Texas used a seven-run sixth inning to overtake UTSA. After North Texas built a 4-3 lead in the fourth inning, the Roadrunners scored five runs in the fifth to take its first lead of the game, 8-4. The Mean Green scored three runs in the fifth to come within one run of the lead and then took control in the sixth.
Ashley Kirk picked up her second win of the season. The redshirt freshman was the third Mean Green pitcher of the game and struck out six batters in 2.2 innings of work. She allowed two runs off two hits.
The Mean Green scored the second-most runs in school history with 14 and tied for the second-most hits with 17. North Texas set a single-game team record with 14 RBI and tied for second with four home runs.
Fraley tied a school record with five runs batted in and became the eighth Mean Green player to hit two home runs in a single game. The junior hit her first home run of the season in the fifth inning; a three-run shot that cut the UTSA lead to one, 8-7. After UTSA regained the lead in the top of the sixth with two runs, Fraley hit her second home run of the season in the bottom of the inning. Her two-run homer proved to be the game-winner.
Freshman Brooke Foster went 4-for-4 with two RBI. She became the sixth player in school history to post four hits in a single game. She knocked in the team's third run with an RBI triple in the second inning. It was her second triple of the season. The third baseman also posted an RBI double in the fourth, and singled twice in the sixth.
Lisa Johnson led off the scoring in the first inning with her third home run of the season. The two-run shot gave North Texas its first lead of the game, 2-0. Johnson and Grimes lead the team with three homers each. The home run was Johnson's 20th of her career.
Grimes sealed the win with a three-run homer in the sixth. The junior catcher went 2-for-2 in the game. Monica Hirsch was also perfect at the plate, going 3-for-3 with two runs scored.
North Texas returns to action on Wednesday, March 2 when it faces Oklahoma at 6 p.m. at Lovelace Stadium.
