NT's Home Winning Streak Comes To End

DENTON, Texas (2/3/11) -The nation's sixth-longest home winning streak came to an end on Thursday night with a Mean Green loss at the Super Pit. The North Texas men's basketball team fell to Florida Atlantic by a score of 72-55.
The Owls improve to 17-7 and 9-1 in the Sun Belt, while the Mean Green falls to 17-6 and 5-5 in the conference. FAU wins its first game at the Super Pit but still trails in the overall series with the Mean Green, 4-2.
Florida Atlantic halted the Mean Green's 17-game home winning streak, becoming the first team to defeat North Texas at the Super Pit since Jan. 16, 2010 when Arkansas State handed the Mean Green a loss. The streak will go down as the second longest in Mean Green history.
FAU built a 10-point halftime lead, and the Mean Green was unable to overcome the deficit in the second half. North Texas cut the lead to three points several times in the final minutes, but FAU finished the game on a 14-0 run.
Kedrick Hogans and Jacob Holmen led the Mean Green in scoring with 14 and 12 points, respectively. George Odufuwa recorded his 28th career double-double with 11 points and 13 rebounds.
North Texas was held to 37 percent field goal shooting and 57 percent shooting from the free-throw line.
Down by 10 points midway through the second half, Hogans began a 7-0 run for the Mean Green with a layup. A three-point play by Dominique Johnson cut the FAU lead to three points, 53-50 at 9:08.
Odufuwa cut the lead to three points a second time with a layup, but FAU's Dennis Mavin answered with a basket of his own. For the final time, Holmen cut the lead to three points, 58-55, with two free throws, but the Mean Green was shut out the rest of the way.
Mavin was one of four FAU players in double-figures. Raymond Taylor led the way with 17 points. FAU shot 48 percent in the game.
Down 15-7 early in the first half, North Texas began to warm up with a 13-8 run. Holmen and Thompson both had three-pointers in the run. A Holmen jumper cut the Owls lead to three points, 23-20.
A 6-0 run by the Owls extended FAU's lead to eight points, 31-23, at 3:29 in the first half. FAU led by as many as 10 points, 37-27, in the first half.
Josh White was held to just one point, his lowest scoring outing all season.
