Fry Receives Lifetime Achievement Award

DENTON, Texas - Former legendary North Texas head football coach Hayden Fry received the Bear Bryant Lifetime Achievement Award last night in Houston as given by the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association.
Fry amassed 40 wins in his time at North Texas as head coach from 1973-78 and led the Mean Green program to two of its greatest single seasons in school history. Fry captured the Missouri Valley Conference title in 1973 in his first year as head coach and four consecutive winning seasons from 1975-78.
In 1977 Fry led North Texas to the best season in school history with a 10-1 record and followed that up with a 9-2 mark the following year in 1978. The 10 wins remained tied for the most in school history and is one of only two 10-win seasons for North Texas. The two year stretch from 1977-78 remains the best in school history with 19 wins.
Fry was inducted into the North Texas Athletic Hall of Fame in 1997 and the College Football Hall of Fame in 2003. North
