Tennis Advances To Semifinals, 4-0 Over FAU

DENTON, Texas - The No. 59 Mean Green tennis team secured its spot in the Sun Belt Conference semifinals with a quick 4-0 victory over No. 9 seed Florida Atlantic on Friday afternoon at the Waranch Tennis Complex.
North Texas (16-6) continued its habit of jumping on top of its opponent early when it took its eighth-straight doubles point with victories at two of the three spots.
No. 2 doubles saw Kseniya Brdabush and Valentina Starkova dominate Florida Atlantic's (10-9) Justine Humair and Natasha Basma, 8-0.
After a close loss at No. 3, the top duo of Nadia Lee and Barbora Vykydalova shut the door on the Owls with an 8-4 victory. The win pushed the tandem's record to 8-2 on the season.
Singles play saw much of the same from the Mean Green, who captured their second point in a little over an hour when Vykydalova took her match on court four, 6-0, 6-1.
Junior Ilona Serchenko followed closely on her heels with a 6-1, 6-1 victory in No. 5 singles.
Senior Paula Dinuta took home the clinching point in the match, taking Natasha Phillips down in 6-3, 6-2.
The Mean Green will take on the No. 4 seed Denver at 9 a.m. Saturday morning at the Waranch Tennis Complex.
