DENTON, Texas - The North Texas soccer team is hosting an intrasquad scrimmage on Friday, Aug. 15 at 7 p.m. at the Mean Green Soccer Stadium. The scrimmage is free and open to the public.
The 24-player Mean Green team will split up into two squads and will play each other in a full 90-minute game. The scrimmage will act as tune-up to the Mean Green's season opener on Friday, August 22 against Texas Southern.
"I want to treat it like a regular season game," said North Texas head coach John Hedlund. "This is a chance for the players to learn the system and build team chemistry."
The Mean Green is coming off a 14-win season and a second-place finish in Conference USA last year. North Texas is returning seven starters, including Rachel Holden, the Conference USA Preseason Offensive Player of the Year.
The 2014 North Texas team has a lot of new faces: nine newcomers and two transfers have been added to the mix. After two full weeks of preseason, coach Hedlund will be able to gauge his team's progress with the scrimmage on Friday.
