North Texas returns to Houston on Sept. 14th when it faces Houston Baptist and on Oct. 12 when the Mean Green plays Rice. The Owls defeated the Mean Green, 4-0, last year in Houston.
The Mean Green began the season with home wins against Texas Southern and Oregon State. North Texas starts with a 2-0 record for the third straight year.
"This week will be a good road test for us," said North Texas head coach John Hedlund. "Both teams we're playing are coming off solid wins and we look forward to the challenge. Each week we want to continue to progress with our play so when conference rolls around we're fully prepared."
Rachel Holden was recognized for her two game-winning goals by being named Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week. She received two player of the week honors last year. One of those was for the opening week of the play when she scored four goals in two games.
Jackie Kerestine returned to goal after a year-long absence with a knee injury. She responded with two shutouts and a combined four saves in the two games. She needs four more shutouts to overtake Mandy Hall as the school's career shutouts leader.
North Texas was also ranked No. 7 in the opening NSCAA Central Region. The Mean Green were ranked right above conference member Charlotte and fellow in-state rival Texas. Oklahoma, who North Texas faces in two weeks, was listed in the No. 4 position.
