One of the great seasons in recent North Texas history came in 2002, when North Texas beat New Mexico State in a thriller at Fouts Field for the Sun Belt Conference championship, then defeated Cincinnati in the New Orleans Bowl.

The uniform from that bowl victory combined a deep green helmet with script North Texas in white on the sides with a solid green jersey and pants with no stripes.
