DENTON - Maria Kononova has quietly become one of the Mean Green's top athletes on campus this year.

She is currently the No. 74 ranked ITA player and has improved to 2-0 this season against the ITA top 125 as she beat the No. 77 ranked Claudia Herrero Garcia of Nevada last Saturday, 6-2, 2-6, 6-3.

Kononova has now won nine straight singles matches at No. 1 and improves to 9-1 on the season. She has also won two Conference USA player of the week awards.

Kononova and her partner Tamuna Kutubidze remained undefeated at the No. 1 spot this season. The duo won 6-0 over New Mexico State and 6-2 against Nevada. They are 7-0 this season.
