Tavistock Collegiate Invitational
Isleworth Golf & Country Club | Windermere, Florida
The UNT men's golf team wraps up its fall schedule this week with a return trip to the Tavistock Collegiate Invitational, known as college golf's "major championship." It will mark the third straight year the Mean Green have played in the tournament.
THE EVENT: The teams will play from the championship tees at Isleworth, better known as the Tiger Tees, and the course will play at 7,544 yards at Par 72. The three-day tournament begins Sunday and will conclude Tuesday with rounds beginning at 7 a.m., Central, each day.
THE FIELD: There are 17 teams participating in the tournament: No. 22 Auburn, Augusta, Arizona, No. 18 Arizona State, No. 26 California, No. 46 Central Florida, No. 52 Florida, No. 8 Illinois, No. 25 LSU, No. 33 North Carolina, No. 27 North Florida, No. 48 North Texas, No. 44 Purdue, No. 55 Texas Tech, UAB, No. 13 Vanderbilt and No. 51 West Virginia.
REPRESENTING UNT: Competing for the Mean Green will be Lenny Bergsson, Viktor Forslund, Thomas Rosenmueller, Jordan Sanders and Kristof Ulenaers.
RESULTS: Live results will be posted on GolfStat.com. Full recaps from each day of competition will be posted on MeanGreenSports.com at the end of each round.
LAST TIME OUT: North Texas finished third at its inaugural Maridoe Intercollegiate on Oct. 6-8 in Carrollton. Thomas Rosenmueller held the lead after one round before finishing in a tie for 11th with teammate Jordan Sanders.
INTERNATIONAL FLAVOR: The Mean Green feature six international players this year, and a seventh in freshman JP Lavalle, who was born in Mexico City but went to high school in The Woodlands, near Houston. Lenny Bergsson (Iceland), Viktor Forslund (Sweden), Vitek Novak (Czech Republic), Henri Renouard (France), Thomas Rosenmueller (Germany) and Kristof Ulenaers (Belgium) round out the international players.
STRACKE SAYS: "I feel like the team has progressed nicely over the first three tournaments. The Tavistock event is one of our favorite tournaments of the year. I know the guys are ready to compete and hopefully we will have some dry weather."
UP NEXT: The Mean Green will be off until February, when the spring season kicks off with The All-American Intercollegiate, Feb. 17-19, in Houston.
HOME SWEET MARIDOE: North Texas enjoys its home course — the Maridoe Golf Club in Carrollton. The course opened to members in July 2017 and gives the Mean Green a state-of-the-art home course with world-class facilities, including a fully-dedicated practice facility, complete with a two-ended driving range to account for many varying wind conditions, a sprawling three-acre short game retreat and indoor facilities with state-of-the-art hitting bays that provide tools the program has not yet had at its disposal.
