Mean Green To Face Rice In Quarterfinals

IRVING — The North Texas soccer team will face off with the Rice Owls in the quarterfinals of the Conference USA Women's Soccer Championships on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. CT in Norfolk, Virginia. The match will be aired live on ESPN+.
The Mean Green (13-2-2, 8-1-1) are the conference tournament's top-seed after winning the regular season championship, the program's 14th conference championship, while the eighth-seeded Owls (7-8-1, 5-4-1) snuck in to the tournament with a must-win victory at Charlotte on Sunday, 2-1.
UNT beat Rice 1-0 on Oct. 5 in Denton in what was one of the most exciting matches of the season. The Mean Green scored the lone goal short-handed and then hung on for the rest of the physical match to secure the win.
The winner of Wednesday's opening-round match will face the winner of No. 4 LA Tech and No. 5 Old Dominion Friday night in the semifinals.
