Surapaneni Wins Exhausting Match

WACO -Â Nidhi Surapaneni battled through pain to advance to the second round of the H-E-B Invitational singles bracket.
The Mean Green women's tennis sophomore won her opening round 6-7(6), 7-6(6), 6-1 to improve to 4-0 in singles this fall.
In a back-and-forth match that lasted over three hours, Surapaneni saved three match points and gained momentum. In the third-set, she overpowered her opponent to the tune of a 6-1 set win. Unfortunately, a cramp got worse throughout the match and, following her first-round win, she was forced to withdraw from her second-round match that would have been against Texas' Fernanda Labraña.Â
Surapaneni was the only UNT player to advance in the main draw, but in the consolation bracket Alexandra Heczey and Minying Liang both advanced with straight-set victories.Â
No Mean Green doubles team advanced in the doubles bracket.
