DENTON — The Mean Green men's basketball team announced one of the state's premier high school point guards in San Antonio native Jalen Jackson has signed a National Letter of Intent to play basketball at the University of North Texas, head coach Grant McCasland announced Thursday afternoon.
Rivals and 247Sports ranks Jackson as a three-star recruit and a top-20 point guard in the country and a top-20 overall player in Texas.
"Jalen Jackson is a winner," McCasland said. "He was raised by an awesome family to be a winner not just on the basketball court but in the classroom and community as well. He's tough and the ultimate competitor. He'll make an immediate impact on our program and we're thrilled that Jalen and his family are part of Mean Green basketball."
An explosive 5-foot-10 guard who thrives in an up-tempo pace but can break down defenders in the half-court, the soon-to-be Wagner High School graduate has led his team on state championship runs and developed into one of the top players under the direction of his father, Terence "Boo Man" Jackson, who is a prominent AAU coach in the state, and Thunderbird prep coach Rodney Clark.
Jackson held offers from Middle Tennessee, UT-San Antonio, Tulsa and others.
