Mean Green Earn Highest Rankings Ever

DENTON — The Mean Green tennis team earned three national rankings in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's first poll since the start of the 2018-19 year.
After winning the ITA Texas Regional doubles draw and winning their opening match at the ITA Fall National Championship tournament, seniors Maria Kononova and Tamuna Kutubidze earned a No. 21 national ranking, the highest doubles ranking in program history.
Kutubidze also earned a No. 45 national ranking in singles after one of the most successful fall seasons in program history. Kutubidze went 7-1 this fall and her only loss came during a deep run in the Texas Regional. She claimed a Rice Invite championship and was twice named the Conference USA Female Tennis Athlete of the Month this fall.
Her No. 45 ranking is a career-best.
Along with Kutubidze and Kononova, senior Minying Liang cracked the ITA national ranking for the first time in her career after a strong fall and an amazing Texas Regional where she reached the round of 16.
Liang earned a No. 102 ranking.
North Texas' two players ranked in the top 105 of the singles ranking is the most out of all C-USA schools. Kutubdize and Kononova are the highest ranked doubles team in C-USA.
The Nov. 14 ranking holds until the start of the spring season in early January.
