Mean Green Claw Back To Win Spring Break Challenge

IRVING, Texas - The entire North Texas men's golf team shot close to par in Wednesday's final round of the Spring Break Challenge and led the Mean Green to their first tournament win since October 2015, when UNT won the Quail Valley Collegiate Invite.
UNT was led on the day by junior Ian Snyman, who shot a 1-under par 70, as the Mean Green finished the tournament 13-over par - three shots ahead of second-place Rice, who battled back and forth with the Mean Green all day on Wednesday after entering the day up three shots on North Texas.
Snyman finished the tournament 2-under par, good for third place overall. Junior Thomas Rosenmueller shot a 1-over par 72 on Wednesday to finish 2-over par for the tournament, good for fifth place over the three-day event.
The well-rounded final day saw Vitek Novak and Viktor Forslund each shoot 1-over par, and Jordan Sanders finished the day at even-par.
"The entire team performed when the tournament was on the line," said UNT coach Brad Stracke, who saw the Mean Green win their 10th tournament under his tutelage. "I am really excited that we won, but it makes it sweeter when everyone has a chance to count the final round."
North Texas trailed Rice by three strokes entering the final round on Wednesday, but fired a field-best 1-over par to make a big move and pass the Conference USA rival Owls.
"You really have to give props to Rice," Stracke said. "They played great this week."
North Texas will now turn around and head to Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, for The Hayt, a two-day tournament beginning Saturday and concluding Sunday.
