Mean Green Go For Number 100

DENTON — In comeback dramatic fashion, the North Texas soccer team opened its doors to the Mean Green Soccer stadium on August 31, 2006.
Playing the first ever match in the stadium, then senior Kristen Campbell, 91 seconds into the overtime period took a feed from then sophomore Kelli Lunsford and fired a laser from 15 yards out past the Cougar goalie and lift the Mean Green over Houston 2-1 in overtime.
The win extended the team's home unbeaten streak to 15 but would be just the beginning of absolute dominance.
In the 4,376 days since the Mean Green moved into their current stadium, North Texas has posted a 99-15-9 (.841) record at the Mean Green Soccer Stadium.
Friday night, UNT plays match 124 in the stadium and will be looking to win number 100.
The Mean Green host Southeastern Louisiana, a school they've never played before, at 7 p.m. The first 300 UNT students will receive free t-shirts.
North Texas is coming off a successful first week of the 2018 season that saw them beat Incarnate Word 3-0 and tie Alabama 1-1. The Mean Green got contribution from a variety of women but none more so than its defense and goalie Kelsey Brann who was named Conference USA Goalkeeper of the Week on Monday for her performance.
Over the two matches, Brann faced 31 shots and allowed just one goal and made a match saving save in overtime versus the Crimson Tide.
Head coach John Hedlund likely hopes game 124 at the soccer stadium is less stressful than game one was nearly 12 year ago and it'll start with the offense converting on opportunities. North Texas averaged 19.32 shots per match in 2017 — the fourth highest average in the nation. Through their first two matches in 2018, the Mean Green are averaging 25.5 shots per match, the fifth-highest in the nation.
Friday, they host a Lady Lions team that in its only match so far this season scored eight goals.
