TYLER, Texas - North Texas quarterback Mason Fine was named the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award National Player of the Week for his performance in the Week 1 win over SMU.
Fine completed 40 of 50 passes for a career-high 444 yards (fifth-most in a single game in program history) and three touchdowns with no interceptions. His 444 passing yards were the most by an FBS quarterback last week. The 40 completions, besides being a career high, also tied for the third most in a game in program history. Fine's performance in the 46-23 win over SMU helped lead the Mean Green to their eighth consecutive home win, which dates back to November 19, 2016 (Southern Miss).Â
Earlier in the week, Fine was also named the Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week and was named to the Davey O'Brien "Great 8."

The Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award, announced in 2012 by the Tyler Chamber and SPORTyler, recognizes the top offensive player in Division I football who also exhibits the enduring characteristics that define Earl Campbell: integrity, performance, teamwork, sportsmanship, drive, community, and tenacity; specifically tenacity to persist and determination to overcome adversity and injury in pursuit of reaching goals. In addition, the nominee must meet one or more of the following criteria: born in Texas and/or graduated from a Texas High School and/or played at a Texas-based junior college or four year D1 Texas college.
