New Signee Set For Latin American Championship

LA ROMANA, Dominican Republic - Recent men's golf signee Alejandro Madariaga will begin play in the Latin America Amateur Championship on Thursday at Casa de Campo's Teeth of the Dog in a four-day tournament that will conclude on Sunday and feature a field of some of the best amateurs from 28 Central and South American countries, as well as Caribbean nations.
Madariaga, from Puebla, Mexico, signed with the Mean Green in November and has had a decorated junior golf career, including a win at the Copa Zona Centro in Mexico and a fifth-place finish at the U.S. Junior Amateur Championship. He also took home a top-15 finish at the Junior Players Championship to go with a runner-up finish at the Junior Americas Cup this past summer. His World Amateur Golf Ranking of 772 is the highest of any of the four signees set to arrive on campus in the fall.
This will be the fifth installment of the tournament, which was created by the USGA, the Royal and Ancient Golf Club at St. Andrews in Scotland and the Masters Tournament. There will be two hours of televised coverage on each day on ESPN2, while the entire tournament can be streamed online at LAACgolf.com.
