Newell, Peters Named To TDS Team Of The Week

DENTON — North Texas soccer senior captain Natalie Newell was named to TopDrawerSoccer's 11-woman team of the week. Additionally, junior forward Berklee Peters was named an honorable mention. UNT, South Florida and California were the only schools to get multiple recipients on this week's award.
"I'm so happy for Natalie finally being recognized for her great play this year," said head coach John Hedlund. "This is quite an honor being selected to TopDrawers' team of the week and Berklee being named honorable mention."
Newell, a three-year captain for the Mean Green, played all 180 minutes this weekend and helped lead North Texas to two shutout victories. On Sunday, the final home game of the regular season, Newell scored a goal and assisted on Peters' goal to give UNT a 2-0 win over Marshall.
Newell and her defensive backline have shutout 10 opponents this year and have given up just one goal at home all season. They gave up zero goals in home conference games this year, Newell has played the entirety of all seven of the Mean Green's last eight matches.
Peters, who was named Conference USA's Offensive Player of the Week on Monday, scored two goals over the weekend to lead the UNT offense to back-to-back 2-0 home wins. Peters leads the Mean Green will 11 goals on the year. She is third in Conference USA in goals.
This is Peters and Newell's first time being named to the TopDrawerSoccer's Team of the Week.
North Texas is on the road this weekend as they head to South Florida to face Florida Atlantic on Friday and FIU on Sunday. The Mean Green will return to Denton on Nov. 6 when they host the 2019 C-USA Tournament.
