Mean Green Complete Red And Blue Challenge

DALLAS — The North Texas tennis team completed the three-day SMU Red and Blue Challenge on Sunday.
Freshman Hala Khaled Badwy and junior Alexandra Heczey went undefeated in doubles over the weekend. The duo picked up wins against Abilene Christian, Northwestern State and Central Arkansas opponents.
After the match, Mean Green tennis health program coordinator Rodrigo De Almeida was excited about the progress the entire team showed during the tournament and the path their headed on leading up to regionals.
"The entire team battled very hard through the weekend and we could see their growth both on and off the courts," De Almeida said. "We picked up a lot of great wins in singles competition along the way. It was great to see many of the things that we are stressing in practice already being used, even this early in the season. In doubles, our team showed to have so much variety and after trying some different combinations we are very pleased with what we saw. We will continue to focus on the process and allow time for the players to solidify their game. We look forward to almost two weeks of intense preparation before regionals."
The intercollegiate Tennis Association Texas Regionals begin Oct. 12.
The Mean Green are the defending doubles champions. But along with their doubles title, UNT had a strong showing in last year's tournament. Most notably from Heczey who in doubles defeated the No. 1 overall seed in the regional.
North Texas is expected to have a full healthy roster for the start of the regionals.
