DALLAS — For the second year in a row, the North Texas soccer team earned the most Conference USA All-Conference honors as five different Mean Green players took home a total of eight accolades as voted on by the league's coaches.
Senior centerback Dominique James was tabbed as the C-USA Defensive Player of the Year. It is the 2018 all-American second consecutive year being named to the honor. James, who was also voted first team all-conference, was the league's preseason defensive player of the year.
On Sept. 29, James, who was the 2018 C-USA Player of the Year, held Middle Tennessee's and this season's C-USA Player of the Year Peyton DePriest to zero shot attempts as the Mean Green won 3-0 over the Blue Raiders.
Redshirt sophomore keeper Kelsey Brann was honored as the C-USA Goalkeeper of the Year and first team all-conference. Brann, who for two years in a row, has led the league in goals-against average, save percentage, shutouts and wins was by far the most dominate goalie in C-USA this year and once again proved to be one of the best in the nation as her 11 shutouts on the year are tied for the second most in the nation. Her .640 goals-against average ranks 30th in the nation.
North Texas' leading goal scorer Berklee Peters was named to the conference's all-conference second team. Peters' 11 goals are the third-most in C-USA and her 65 shots are just five off the leader. A 2018 all-conference honoree, Peters has more than doubled her goal total from last year.
Junior Logan Bruffett took home her first all-conference honor as she was voted third team. The Mean Green captain who has played all over the field this year has scored five goals and been one of their top defenders in marking opponents' best players. Bruffett along with James and the rest of the defense have been instrumental in the Mean Green's 12 shutouts on the year.
Freshman Allie Byrd was named to two honors as she was voted third team all-conference as well as named to the all-freshman team. Byrd is the first Mean Green freshman to be named all-conference since Rachel Holden in 2013.
Byrd is currently second on the Mean Green in goals with six. Four of her six goals came against FIU in what was one of the best single C-USA games ever. She had a hat trick by the 26th-minute of the match — The second-fastest hat trick in program history. Furthermore, her four-goal performance was the most goals scored by a single player in a Conference USA league match since 2014 and is tied for the second-best performance in a C-USA league game ever.
