DENTON – Mean Green student-athletes combined to post a GPA of 3.01 during the 2019 fall semester. It was the first time in over six years that a semester GPA for all UNT student-athletes was over 3.0.
The 352 scholarship student-athletes also improved their cumulative GPA to 3.06, which is the highest it has been since Vice President and Director of Athletics Wren Baker took over in 2016. In all, 205 of the 352 student-athletes earned a term GPA of 3.0 or better in the fall.
"I'm extremely proud of the effort by our student-athletes, our coaches and our academic support team who have all worked tirelessly to keep progressing in the classroom," Baker said. "We are continually adding resources to help build champions and prepare leaders in the classroom, but ultimately they have to accept the challenge and put in the work to accomplish these milestones and they have done that."
Eleven of the 14 teams had a GPA of 3.0 or better in the fall, and the volleyball, tennis and women's golf team each had their entire rosters post a GPA of 3.0 or better. The women's golf team led the way with a team GPA of 3.74, marking the fifth consecutive semester that head coach Mike Akers' squad has improved their team GPA.
The men's cross country team (3.48) and the men's track and field team (3.07) each recorded their best academic semester since it began being tracked.
There were 42 Mean Green student-athletes on the 2019 fall President's List, which recognizes students with a perfect 4.0 GPA. There were 77 UNT athletes on the Dean's List (3.5-3.599) and 86 on the AD Honor Roll (3.0-3.499).
