GAME NOTES
CHARLOTTE, North Carolina  — After suffering a 72-61 loss at Old Dominion on Thursday, the North Texas men's basketball team is at Charlotte on Saturday to round up its two-game road trip to the east coast.Â
Saturday's game is scheduled to tip-off at 3 p.m. CT and will air live on ESPN+ as Bobby Rosinski and Jobey Thomas will be on the call. Fans can also catch the game on the Mean Green Sports Network as the voice of the Mean Green Dave Barnett can be heard on KHYI 95.3 FM or on the tuneIN app.
The Mean Green (18-4, 6-3 C-USA) had three players score in double figures on Thursday in Virginia, as Ryan Woolridge led all scorers with 19 points. Old Dominion's size and the current lack of depth by UNT hurt the Mean Green as they were outrebounded and struggled to contain the Monarch's scoring inside.Â
Senior Michael Miller has been bright spot for North Texas over the past few games. Miller scored 17 points on Thursday, which marked the most points he's scored since he scored a career-high 35 points on Dec. 20. His 17-point performance came on the heels of a 15-point outing last week versus Middle Tennessee.
This will be the Mean Green's first trip to Charlotte (5-16, 2-8 C-USA) under second-year North Texas head coach Grant McCasland. UNT is aiming to win in Charlotte for the first time since Nov. 12, 2006. The 49ers are coming off of a 65-61 loss at home to Rice.Â
The Mean Green are one road win shy of tying its total from all of last season, including its victory at South Dakota in the first round of the CBI Tournament. A win would also improve their conference record to 7-3, which would be the best mark since the 1991-92 season when they started 8-2 in conference play.
FRESHMAN RECORDÂ
North Texas redshirt freshman Umoja Gibson's 57 three-pointers (2.59 per game) this season and 20 off the school- record for a freshman. Chris Davis' 77 three-pointers in 1999-00 is the school record. Gibson is on pace to finish the regular season with 80 three pointers, which would be the third most in a single season in program history.Â
6.5 OR MORE
Woolridge and Z. Simmons are each aver- aging 6.5 rebounds per game, they are the only team in C-USA with multiple guys averaging 6.5+ rebounds per game.Â
OUT OF A TIMEOUT
According to Synergy Sports, North Tex- as is shooting a NCAA best 53.3 percent out of timeouts.Â
