UNT Women To Resume Round 2 Tuesday

THE WOODLANDS, Texas – The North Texas women's golf team is tied for ninth place at the ICON Invitational at The Woodlands Country Club with the second round still to be completed on Tuesday morning after it was suspended due to darkness on Monday.
Sabina Pena, Lauren Cox, Audrey Tan and Patricia Sinolungan have between two and four holes remaining in the second round before finishing up the tournament with the third and final round Tuesday. UNT is 26-over par, tied with Southern Mississippi and a shot up on No. 46 Texas Tech, one of the six teams in the field ranked in the top 50 nationally.
The Mean Green were led on Day 1 by Cox, who is currently tied for 18th at 4-over par, and Sinolungan, who is tied for 22nd at 5-over.
"We had some good things happen today, but when you play against competition of this caliber, you cannot make mistakes," UNT coach Michael Akers said. "We had some course management issues and some missed short putts. We look forward to the final round and will try to climb the leaderboard."
The Mean Green will resume Round 2 at 8 a.m., Tuesday with Round 3 to follow, although rain is in the forecast for the greater Houston area.
Akers also made a point to praise the play of sophomore Madison Lewis, who made her collegiate debut and birdied the 18th hole in the first round.
"I am very proud of Madison with her first collegiate tournament round," Akers said. "She saved us shots and really competed great. We are short-handed right now and so thankful for her."
