N.I.T.
OMNI Tucson National, The Catalina Course | Tucson, Arizona
The North Texas men's golf team returns to action after a quick turnaround from the General Hackler Championship last week in South Carolina. Last year, the Mean Green finished fourth at the tournament.
THE EVENT: The Catalina Course at OMNI Tucson National is a 7,262-yard, par-72 course. The two-day tournament begins Monday with 36 holes of continuous play, with a shotgun start at 10 a.m. Round 3 will begin at 10 a.m., Tuesday, with a shotgun start.
THE FIELD: There are 16 teams in the tournament, including six top-50 programs and several others just outside the top 50: No. 49 Arizona, No. 4 Arizona State, Colorado, No. 52 Colorado State, No. 42 Iowa State, No. 69 New Mexico, North Texas, No. 5 Oklahoma, San Diego, No. 57 San Diego State, No. 32 UNLY, No. 7 USC, No. 62 Utah, UTEP, Washington State and Wyoming.
REPRESENTING UNT: Competing for the Mean Green will be Viktor Forslund, Jordan Sanders, Lenny Bergsson, Henri Renouard and Trent Hill.
RESULTS: Live results will be posted on GolfStat.com. Full recaps from each day of competition will be posted on MeanGreenSports.com.
LAST TIME OUT: The Mean Green finished 12th at the General Hackler Championship in South Carolina, while redshirt sophomore Kristof Ulenaers continued his hot streak with a 26th-place finish. Ulenaers is out of action due to injury.
INTERNATIONAL FLAVOR: The Mean Green feature five international players this year, and a sixth in freshman JP Lavalle, who was born in Mexico City but went to high school in The Woodlands, near Houston. Lenny Bergsson (Iceland), Viktor Forslund (Sweden), Henri Renouard (France), Thomas Rosenmueller (Germany) and Kristof Ulenaers (Belgium) round out the international players.
STRACKE SAYS: "Kristof is going to be out for the next two tournaments because of an injury. We need the guys to step up without Kristof in the lineup and play loose with a lot of focus."
UP NEXT: North Texas will return to the The Hayt Invitational in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, March 31-April 1. Last year, the Mean Green finished 11th in the always loaded field.
HOME SWEET MARIDOE: North Texas enjoys its home course - the Maridoe Golf Club in Carrollton. The course opened to members in July 2017 - and gives the Mean Green a state-of-the-art home course with world-class facilities, including a fully-dedicated practice facility, complete with a two-ended driving range to account for many varying wind conditions, a sprawling three-acre short game retreat and indoor facilities with state-of-the-art hitting bays that provide tools the program has not yet had at its disposal.
