More Than A Soccer Mom

DENTON – Even with a quick glance on the Mean Green soccer team's roster page and it's hard to miss.
Number 23, Brooke Lampe, is listed at every position: a forward, midfielder, defender and goalie.
The sophomore who in her two seasons at North Texas has played in every match – 14 as a starter –, scored five goals and has helped lead UNT to back-to-back Conference USA championships is probably by fans most known for her 2017 C-USA title game performance during penalty kicks.
The then freshman, who hadn't played goalie all season, was inserted by head coach John Hedlund into net to try and win the championship for the Mean Green.
She did exactly that.
"At the time it didn't seem like a big deal, because I've always been told to do whatever the coach asked you to do no matter how uncomfortable or inglorious it may be," Lampe, the daughter of a high school football coach said. "But now looking back it's pretty crazy that John (Hedlund) would do that."
While that's how she so far might be known for by the people outside of the program, inside the locker room and by her teammates Lampe is known as one of the most positive people.
"Her positive attitude and ability to be coached is one things that separates her," Hedlund said after the championship win. "She's a special player."
Lampe's positive attitude, hardworking character and so much can be attributed to her mom, Linda.
Someone the team see's as all of their moms, Linda, has made tremendous sacrifices, though she doesn't call them that, to be her daughter, her family and the team's biggest supporter while fighting cancer.
While living in Mansfield, Linda Lampe finds a way to not just make all the home matches but road ones too. Her dedication to her family has inspired her daughter and so much more.
