DENTON – The seven-time Conference USA champion North Texas soccer team has continued reloading this offseason by bringing home two Texas products who will be eligible to play right away.
Defender Lana Hastings (Bastrop, Texas) transfers to the Mean Green from league rival Old Dominion and midfielder Chloe Bohanon (Frisco) comes to Denton after spending her freshman season at Oklahoma.
"We're excited to have Chloe and Lana part of the Mean Green family," said head coach John Hedlund. "Both players are very athletic, highly competitive and have the overall game to make an immediate impact for us this coming fall."
The addition of Hastings and Bohanon brings the program's offseason total to 15 newcomers on its 27-woman roster. The Mean Green's 11-woman incoming freshman class features two first team all-state honorees and a signee who TopDrawerSoccer.com ranks in the top 12 in the state.
Hastings bolsters a Mean Green defense that is coming off one of its most dominating seasons in program history. UNT allowed just 13 goals all of last year and had one of the best goals against averages in the nation.
UNT returns all-American defender Dominique James for her senior season. The center back lost her fellow starting center back in Carissa Sanders after the four-year starter graduated in May. Hastings, who will have three years of eligibility left, is expected to compete for that starting position.
Hastings played her prep soccer at Bastrop High School and played club soccer for Lone Star.
Bohanon will begin her UNT career as a redshirt freshman after missing all of last season at OU due to an injury. Bohanon was a four-star recruit coming out of Frisco High School, where she was classmates with Mean Green forward Olivia Klein. Bohanon, Klein and 2019 North Texas graduate Taylor Torres were all teammates at Frisco in 2015.
Like Torres, Bohanon played her club soccer with FC Dallas.
North Texas begins its 25th season this fall and aims to capture its sixth straight conference title. The Mean Green won their first league championship in 2001 and have collected 15 since then.
NEW STADIUM AND FACILITY
UNT will open the doors to its new stadium after 12 years at the Mean Green Soccer Stadium where they owned a 105-15-9 record. They were 8-0-1 at home last season with the one tie coming against Alabama.
Since 2008, North Texas has won 85 percent of its home matches and has not lost a home conference match since Oct. 31, 2008. UNT hasn't lost a home conference match in 49 consecutive tries, which is an NCAA record. In total, North Texas only lost two home conference matches at the Mean Green Soccer Stadium.
The 2019 schedule will be released later this summer. Chloe BohanonLana Hastings
