2019 SCHEDULE
DENTON — The North Texas soccer team and head coach John Hedlund have released the schedule for the 2019 season, which will be the 15-time conference champion's 25th overall season and its first at its new facility.
Along with ringing in the program's 25th season and its new stadium, UNT will host the 2019 Conference USA Tournament from Nov. 6-10. It will be the first time they will host a league tournament.
"Winning the conference each year will always be our number one priority and when you're going for six straight C-USA titles the target on your back becomes much larger. Everyone wants to knock you off the top of the mountain so we know we're going to get everyone's best," Hedlund said. "Playing non-conference games against consistent NCAA tournament programs such as South Florida, Central Florida, Texas Tech, Memphis, Alabama and HBU should really help us when conference play rolls around in September."
The Mean Green who are coming off one of their most successful seasons in program history — earning a top 25 national ranking and reaching the NCAA Tournament for a sixth time — will open the doors to its new stadium and the regular season on Thursday August 22 at 7 p.m. versus Northwestern State.
In total they will play four home non-conference matches. UNT will also travel to Memphis on Sept. 6 and to Alabama on Sept. 15.
Before those matches though, they will head to Texas Tech on Sept. 1. The match will be one-day shy of its 25th anniversary of its inaugural match that was also at Texas Tech on Sept. 2, 1995.
The conference season begins for UNT on Sept. 20 with three straight home games.
North Texas, who has not lost a home conference match in a NCAA record 49 consecutive matches, opens league play by welcoming Old Dominion to Denton. Over the last two seasons, the Monarchs are the only Conference USA opponent to beat the Mean Green.
Following its match against ODU, North Texas will host Southern Miss on Sept. 26. The Mean Green defeated USM 2-1 in overtime in the conference title game last season to claim their second-straight tournament crown.
The Mean Green close out their three-game home stand on Sept. 29 by hosting Middle Tennessee. UNT beat the Blue Raiders 2-1 last season in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, to clinch the C-USA regular season championship.
After road matches at UT San Antonio on Oct. 6 and at UAB on Oct. 13, the Mean Green return home to face WKU on Oct. 18. They will then play their final home match of the 2019 season on Oct. 20 against Marshall.
The Oct. 20 match against the Thundering Herd will be senior day for the Mean Green as they will honor their three graduating seniors: Madeline Guderian, Dominique James and Natalie Newell.
UNT concludes the regular season with three straight road matches.
They head to Florida Atlantic on Oct. 25 and then to FIU on Oct. 27 before closing out the schedule on Nov. 1 with a bout at Rice in Houston.
In addition to their 18-match schedule, the Mean Green will play two exhibition matches in Florida prior to the season. They travel to South Florida on Aug. 16 and then to Central Florida on Aug. 18.
